Two previously-published titles, PLASTIC FARM by Rafer Roberts and NANTUCKET BROWN ROASTERS by Jason Asala, will be debuting this October from Ambrosia Publishing. Both titles are scheduled to begin their online serialization this fall with the collected versions being published in early 2008.

PLASTIC FARM was originally published by creator Rafer Roberts and ran for 12-issues where it garnered praise from such creators as Dave (CEREBUS) Sim and Larry (AiT/PlanetLar) Young. Planned as a continuing series, PLASTIC FARM follows the life of a man named Chester and his slow descent into complete insanity, and chronicles how that madness reshapes the world around him. Chester has had a rough childhood, has a magic cowboy that rides a dinosaur living inside of his head, and is now, late in life, sitting in a nameless airport bar during a blizzard telling his life story to a group of people who really couldn’t care less.

Jason Asala’s NANTUCKET BROWN ROASTERS (now simply known as ROASTERS) is an eccentric, innovative fable of action, fantasy, and weird fiction starring Fish, a bluegill possessed by a 6,000-year-old evil pharaoh, Ahab, a one-legged, spear-wielding strongman in a new body, and Daisy, a living doll. The first previously-published NANTUCKET BROWN ROASTERS mini-series will be serialized and published by Ambrosia Publishing. We are introduced to Ahab, Daisy and Fish, who become the core of the Roasters as well as learn about Khufu and his crazy schemes of world domination, and oatmeal cookies.

Both PLASTIC FARM and NANTUCKET BROWN ROASTERS will begin their online serialization here at Ambrosia Publishing beginning this October.

Ain’t It Cool News Shows CLOCKWORK CREATURE and THEY DO NOT DIE! Some Lovin’

Both CLOCKWORK CREATURE and THEY DO NOT DIE! got positive reviews from comic book reviewer, Ambush Bug, at the popular pop culture news and reviews site, Ain’t It Cool News.

CLOCKWORK CREATURE: CHAPTER ONE Is Heading To The Printer

Like the title says, Kyle Strahm’s CLOCKWORK CREATURE: CHAPTER ONE will be sent to the printer in the next day or so. Due to the delay, the pre-ordering contest is pushed back till next week. Apologies for the delay but both Kyle and I wanted the packaging of the graphic novel to be the best it can be. The final version of it does look very sweet if I say so myself.

The Ambrosia Publishing Store Is Opening Soon

Soon you will be able to purchase digital versions of some of the titles being published by AP. The digital versions are ready to go but there’s some testing which still needs to be done. If things go as planned, the Ambrosia Publishing Store will be open sometime in (very) early September.

From The Ashes of THE ENGINE Comes PANEL AND PIXEL

As most people reading this knows already (well, those of you that keep up with comic news), Warren Ellis will be closing his much-beloved The Engine forum at the end of this month. In its place comes Panel And Pixel, a forum very similar to The Engine minus the sub-forums about Ellis’ books. So far, it seems to be picking up where The Engine will eventually leave off.

Why Did It Take Me So Long?

That’s what I kept asking myself as I watched ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT on DVD this past week.

Not since the Ricky Gervais version of THE OFFICE have I laughed so much watching a tv show. I kept hearing about it and hearing about it, read positive review after positive review, thinking it’s one of those shows people make a big deal out of how funny and original it is only to find it’s no better than, say, THE GOLDEN GIRLS.

I can without a doubt say I was wrong. All three seasons are available on DVD and I can’t recommend them enough.

David (DUSK) Doub Next Con Appearance

DUSK creator and writer, David Doub, will be at the Bokudou Con being held August 25th till the 26th in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He’ll be on the HOW TO CREATE COMICS/MANGA panel on Sunday, August 26th from 12:30 to 2:30. You can learn more about the con in the link above.

BEFORE DAWN and BEFORE DAWN Sequel Coming To Ambrosia Publishing in 2008

Mine and Jason Whitley’s love letter to some of our favorite horror movies, (including EVIL DEAD and THE THING), BEFORE DAWN will be coming to Ambrosia Publishing in mid-2008.

Our plan is to have it conclude sometime in June or July, using the San Diego Comic-Con to debut the new published version of the book along with the online serialization of the sequel. I have the outline for the sequel done so now I just have to write it and let Jason work his magic. I really like how this sequel plays out. It’s full of big monsters, massive destruction, a guest appearance by the devil, and some funny bits. It should be a fun ride.

Early THEY DO NOT DIE! Reviews

Here are a couple of early reviews of the THEY DO NOT DIE! graphic novel which is currently being serialized online and is scheduled for publication in early 2007 / 2008.

Tentative Convention Schedule for 2008

I’m learning the earlier you plan for conventions- the better. So here’s an early look at the cons I plan on exhibiting at in 2008:

Fangoria Weekend of Horrors in Austin, Texas
New York Comic Con
MoCCA
Fangoria Weekend of Horrors in New Jersey
San Diego Comic-Con
Comic Book Expo
SPX

THEY DO NOT DIE! Launch

This week saw the launch of Scott O. Brown and Horacio Lalia’s lurid horror tale, THEY DO NOT DIE! Being a child of the 70s, this book reminds me of those HOUSE OF MYSTERY and TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED published by DC during that time. It has that whole European 60s / 70s horror movie vibe to it. Great art and a solid story so be sure to check it out.

Two New Projects Which I Can’t Talk About Just Yet

Been in talks with two creators about bringing their previously-published books to Ambrosia Publishing. The deals are just about done except for the signing of the contracts. Till then, I can’t really say anything. Wish I could because I’m really jazzed about the possibility of publishing them. I’ll be sure to talk more about them when I can.

Looking for Submissions

I have next year’s publishing schedule pretty much done except I’m looking for one more project to complete the year. So if you are interested in submitting your project to Ambrosia, just go here to learn how to submit to Ambrosia. Word of advice, I’m looking for unique projects involving vampires or giant monsters. Not saying I’m not interested in other projects but I’m hoping to get some involving either one of those two.
